NY Knicks take Georgia Tech guard Iman Shumpert
GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP)—The New York Knicks have taken Georgia Tech guard Iman Shumpert with the 17th pick of the NBA draft.
With a crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark that included No. 1 Knicks fans Spike Lee chanting “Let’s Go Knicks!” as the pick was to be announced Thursday night, Shumpert’s name drew a mixed reaction that included boos.
The 6-foot-5 Shumpert averaged 15.0 points in three seasons with the Yellow Jackets including 20.4 last season when he became the fourth player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to lead his team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.
The pick was the last made under the direction of team president Donnie Walsh, who decided he won’t return when his contract expires June 30.
This is a very good pick. Reminds me of Michael Cooper. We will have someone who can guard the likes of Rondo, and make it tough on Wade. He’s 6’6′ 220lbs, and his athleticism is off the charts. A pick that makes SENSE! Can only help, we’re finally making progress. If you guys want to read more about Iman, Click Here. -Big Drew
